Hello!
It's always time for an experiment! And it doesn't have to be a big one, either. Just a little thing to see if a mistake can be crafted into something new. Recently, I'm working on replenishing my little clay flower collection, using up some older glazes and I came across a couple that are not supposed to be fired at the same temperature as what I am firing to.
Orange and Yellow supposed to be fired at cone 06, but I fired at cone 05
These need to be fired a cone cooler, but I said " What the hey, let's see what happens with one!" And this happened...
As I suspected, the color burned out, but since the glaze seemed to pool, I wondered if I textured the clay underneath and see if the glaze would pool, similar to the yellow in the center - another glaze that was overfired.
So, I did create a group of clay flowers with a lots of texture using new stamps I found at the thrift shop.
Loaded up the kiln this morning and firing as I type....I'll update this blog with the results.
I feel it's important to always try something new, it's what keeps the creativity going! Watch for the update in a few days, Karen
